Would this middle of the road conclusion apply to other aspects of brain function eg that we are in fact constrained from thinking certain thoughts similar to the way that we can’t see infrared. That might account for the strongly held there is a lot riding on the argument.
I don’t think that it’s the same thing. We can’t see infrared because we lack the visual ability to do so. As I understand the book’s argument, language habituates rather than proscribes.
