One thought on “Help! I’m stranded on Huxley’s Island

  1. Thanks, Ron. I used to teach this novel in my utopias course at Cap U . . . everything you say about it is dead right, but of course Huxley wasn’t the only one to be made prisoner of a literary utopia, that is, of the strait-jacketed format. What else is there to do except provide exposition?? Vide Bellamy’s “Looking Backward” or your own example, “Islandia.” Perhaps the best thing to do is to throw out the damn genre altogether. Literature is literature, polemics are politics.
