  1. Cancer is a particularly interesting case in this respect mainly because the alternative view is so dire that neither patients nor medical practitioners want to consider it. There is the fear that without positive thinking the outcome of a cancer diagnosis can only be negative. The cancer industry has a history of harmful positive thinking from the gung ho demand for radical surgery to the unwillingness until relatively recently to accept the need for palliative care leading to needless suffering..Seeing similar delusional beliefs around the American Dream is plausible as a reason why so many failed to see economic and social disaster approach.
